As of July 1st, 2008, the
New York State Department of State implemented new standards for Real
Estate Professionals. New Real Estate Associates are now required
to take 75 hours of Real Estate instruction and new Real Estate Brokers
are required to have a total of 120 hours of instruction. (45 hours of
Brokers class and 75 hours of Salesperson)
There is NO GRANDFATHER CLAUSE.
If you completed the 45 hour salespersons course, you will need to take
the additional 30 hours RE Supplemental course and the 45 Hour Broker's
course to become a Real Estate Broker.
WHICH COURSE IS FOR YOU ??? ARE YOU .

1. New to Real Estate ? - - You need to take
the 75 hour Salespersons course. This is the introductory course.

2. Started but did not finish the 45 hour
Salespersons course ? - - Sorry, You need to start
over with the 75- hour course. Completing the course means both
attending the requisite hours and passing the school exam.
3. Completed the 45 hour salesperson course prior to
7/1/08, did not take/pass the state exam? - - You get credit
for your 45 hours. You must take and pass the 30 hour RE
Supplemental course in order to become a Real Estate Salesperson.

4. Currently a Real Estate Salesperson, originally took
the 45 hour Real Estate Salesperson's course? - - You do not
have to do anything to remain a salesperson other than your Continuing
Education requirements. If you wish to become a Real Estate
Broker/ Associate Real Estate Broker, you will need to take both the 30
hour RE Supplemental course as well as the 45 hour Brokers course.
5. Took the 75 hour course and want to be a Real Estate
broker/ Associate Broker? - - Just take the 45 hour Brokers
